A symbolic wedding ceremony essentially consists of a blessing or a symbolic ceremony. Generally is the simplest way. Usually the couples who choose this type of ceremony have had a civil ceremony in their home country, and arrive in Italy for a wedding according to Italian tradition, at historic sites or in a private setting.For this type of ceremony the legal assistance, which is needed for the religious and civil ceremony, is not required.

It means that we can organize a symbolic ceremony in the garden or terrace with a cuppa/gazebo, chairs for people attending the ceremony and a minister who is just someone can speak english and that can celebrate the ceremony, it doesn't have any legal value.

Civil Wedding Ceremonies

Religious Wedding Ceremonies

Foreign citizens can be married in Italy according to the Catholic rites. In this case, the ceremony must take place in a Catholic Church. 

The couple have to be baptized, went to Holy Christian Communion and confirmed and prove it with all the documents required.


A religious ceremony in Italy has also a civil value, it means that the same certificates of the civil ceremony will be required.
